The data presented by EASI are based on a demographic models of crime, they do not represent actual reported crimes.
The data that drives these models are supplied by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. EASI products have used the latest data that is available in order to reflect the most current conditions. There are many different statistics that are available for counties. These data represent the reported crimes to the FBI. EASI has performed an analysis of the data and made adjustments in order to improve the usability of these data. The definitions for the crime types are from the Penal Law of The State of New York.
Note: Data are not reported for all counties in the US. EASI reviewed all of the data and estimated crime rates based on a variety of factors. If only large counties or metropolitan counties had data, EASI subtracted those data from the state total and used an estimate for all of the remaining counties based on that difference (state less disclosed estimates). The states where these adjustments occurred were: Illinois; Mississippi; Indiana; Louisiana; Kansas; New York; Montana; New Mexico; Ohio; South Dakota; Tennessee; and Vermont.
