How to Generate a Demographic Snapshot Report

  1. Select any of the reports in the drop-down box (Summary report, Executive Summary, Cost of Living, etc).
  2. Select a geographic area: USA, states, CBSAs, counties, cities, or ZIP Codes.
  3. If you select a CBSA, county, city, or ZIP code you will need also to select a state.
  4. Check the "Display Percent US in Report" box to see the percentage the report area makes up within the entire USA.
  5. Click the "Create Report" button to display the information for the selected area.

Example: Find a Quick Summary of the demographics of Autauga county, AL.

  1. Select "Demographic Snapshot Reports" icon
  2. Select "Executive Summary Report"
  3. Select "County"
  4. Select "Alabama"
  5. Select "Autauga, AL"
  6. Select "Display Percent US in Report"
  7. Click "Create Report"

How to Generate a Detailed Demographic Report

  1. Select any of the reports in the "Select a Report" drop-down menu.
  2. Select a geographic area: USA, states, CBSAs, counties, cities, or ZIP Codes.
  3. If you select a CBSA, county, city, or ZIP code you will need also to select a state.
  4. Check the "Display Percent US in Report" box to see the percentage the report area makes up within the entire USA.
  5. Click the "Create Report" button to display the information for the selected area.

Example: What are the predominant ancestries by country of origin in Huntsville, AL?

  1. Select "Demographic Detailed Reports" icon.
  2. Select "Population Ancestry by Country of Origin" in the drop-down box.
  3. Select "CBSAs" or "Cities"
  4. Select "Alabama"
  5. Select "Huntsville, AL"
  6. Select "Display Percent US in Report"
  7. Click "Create Report"

How to Generate a Demographic Table Report

  1. Select any of the Reports in the "Seelct a Report" drop-down menu..
  2. Select a geographic area: USA, states, CBSAs, counties, cities, or ZIP codes.
  3. If you select a CBSA, county, city, or ZIP code you will need also to select a state.
  4. Depending on the geographic area that you have selected, you will be able to display also additional geographic areas that are contained in your selection. For instance, if you select a county, you will be able to display other counties located in a mile range determined by you; or all cities, or all ZIP Codes in that county.
  5. Press the "Create Report" button to display the information for the selected area.

Example: Create a table showing the Asian Population by Age & Sex of Cities in Connecticut.

  1. Select "Demographic Detailed Report" icon.
  2. Select "Population Asian by Age & Sex" in the "Select a Report" drop down box.
  3. Select "States" in the "Geography" box.
  4. Select "Connecticut" in the "State" box.
  5. Select "Cities in selected State" in "Report Option" box.
  6. Click on "Create Table"

How to Create a Ranking Analysis

  1. Select a geographic area to rank (states, CBSAs, counties, cities, or ZIP Codes).
  2. If desired, limit analysis to specific state(s) by checking box "Analyzing selected states" and then choosing up to 9 (hold "control" key to multi-select)
  3. Select a variable type. There are 23 broad categories of variables available for ranking. Types range from population characteristics to quality of life variables. Many categories have either broadly grouped statistics or detailed statistics for specific variables.
  4. Select a variable on which to rank the selected geographic area.
  5. Select the rank option. The ranking can be sorted from "High to Low" or in reverse order from "Low to High." The number of records to display can be adjusted in the input box to a maximum of 999 records.
  6. Press the "Create Rank" button to build the ranking based on the criteria selected.

Example: Create a Ranking of States by number of Hispanic Males, 25-34 years old.

  1. Select "Ranking Analysis" icon.
  2. Select "State" in "Geography to Rank".
  3. Choose "Population, Racial Characteristics" in the "Variable Type" drop-down box.
  4. Choose "Display High to Low" for "Rank Options"
  5. Click on "Create Rank"

How to Generate a Profile Analysis

  1. Select a geographic area to rank (states, CBSAs, counties, cities, or ZIP codes).You can select up to 9 states.
  2. Create a profile by selecting a variable type and choosing the specific variable (up to 23 broad categories). Be sure to click the "Add Variable" box;.
  3. The selected variables can be weighted to reflect their relative contribution to the overall value for the profile.
  4. Select the profile option. The "Profile Analysis" can be sorted from "High to Low" or in reverse order from "Low to High." The number of records to display can be adjusted in the input box to a maximum of 999 records.
  5. Click "Create Profile" to build a report for the selected geographic area and variables.

Example: Generate a chart ranking cities where the Cost of Living for Food & Beverages is highest.

  1. Select "Profile Analysis" icon.
  2. Select "Cities" for your Geography.
  3. Select "Cost of Living" in the "Select a Variable Type" box.
  4. Select "Food & Beverage" in the "Select one or More Variables" box. (Be sure to click on "Add Variable").
  5. Select "Profile Option" "Display from High to Low".
  6. Click on "Create Profile".

How to Create a Quick Map

  1. Select a geographic area: USA, states, CBSAs, counties, cities, or ZIP Codes.
  2. If you select a CBSA, county, city, or ZIP Code you will need also to select a state.
  3. Select the "Map Option" by choosing the points on the map you want to be displayed.
  4. Select a variable to map. The listing shows more than hundreds of variables for population, households, establishments, and consumer expenditures.
  5. Click the "Create Map" button.
  6. Once the map is created, you can plot the points on the map relative to their rank in the entire USA or relative to the area you have selected. In addition, you have the option to display the geographic area and data on the map.
  7. You can also select what quintiles (20% groups) to include in the map.

How can I save a report?

Once you have created a report, follow these steps to save it:

  • Select the "Save Report" option from the left-hand side menu.
  • Click on the "Save" button from the popup window.
  • Select a name for your report and make sure to save the file as an Excel document.

Another method for saving the report is as follows:

  • From the navigation bar in the left column, select the "Print Friendly Report" option.
  • Highlight the entire report using the left mouse button or by pressing CTRL+A.
  • Once you have selected the full report, press the right mouse button and choose "Copy" or press CTRL+C.
  • Open a new spreadsheet and position the cursor in the upper left-hand cell, right click the mouse, and select "Paste" or simply press CTRL+V.
  • The full report will be imported into the spreadsheet.

How can I print a report?

Once you have created a report, follow these steps to print it:

  • From the navigation bar in the left column, select the "Print Friendly Report" option.
  • Select the "Print Preview" option from your menu to see exactly how your pages will look when they are printed. You can save paper right up until the final print by using this function.
  • If you cannot fit all the columns of the report in the page, please select landscape as the orientation of your printing from the "Print Preview" page or from the "Page Setup" option.
  • Once you are satisfied with the way the riport will be printed, you can print directly from the "Print Preview" page by clicking on the print button or printer icon.
