EASI Score

The EASI Score is displayed as part of an EASI Detailed Report. It takes the results of the EASI Rank and arranges them into a quintile (20% per group) frequency distribution.

A = top 20% = highest

B = next 20% = second highest

C = next 20% = average

D = next 20% = second lowest

E = bottom 20% = lowest

If a filter has been applied to the study and the Area Rank report option is selected, the EASI Score will be computed based on the number of records that meet the filter requirements. For instance, by limiting the study area to the New England States, the EASI Score is a comparison to the other New England areas, not the entire US.

For example, the table below shows the information reported for a single hypothetical County. There are a total of 3141 Counties in the US, therefore the largest EASI Rank in this study will be "3141."

Description

Value

EASI Score

EASI Rank

Population

199,655

C

1571

The name of the variable and the estimate of the count or index number or data estimate for the geography. There are 119,655 people in this County. All populations have the same EASI Score of "C," because the concentration of population is the same for all areas.

EASI Weather Index

147

B

72

A combination measure (US Average=100) developed from 11 different weather variables. The higher the value, the better the weather (not too hot, not cold). The EASI Score of "B" indicates above average weather.

EASI Quality of Life

182

A

20

A combination measure (US Average Index=100) developed from 29 different quality of life variables. Weights were assigned based upon each variable's importance (EASI developed) to a high quality of life. The higher the value, the better the quality. The EASI Score of "A" indicates a high quality of life for this area.

EASI Crime Index

92

C

162

A combination of 8 crime related variables (US Average=100; A=High Crime) with more weight given to violent crimes. The higher the value, the more crime there is. A score of "A" is a high crime (note an "A" is not always good) area; a rank of "1" indicates the highest crime area. The EASI Score of "C" indicates an average amount of crime in this area.

Total Household Income ($000)

1,376,040,071

D

250

Median Household Income ($)

24,714

D

245

The median income of $24,714 is less than the national average, therefore the EASI Score is a "D."

Median Age

30.6

E

262

Median age of 30.6 years is much lower (younger) than the national average, therefore the EASI Score is "E."

Black Population

7,464

C

172

The estimate of 7,464 Black Population is average in the ratio of Blacks. Among a total of Counties, the rank of 172 is near the middle.

Total Aged 0-5 Years Old

11,550

A

61

The 11,550 count is well above what the average count would be, so the EASI Rank of 61 is an EASI Score of "A."

Square Miles (Land Area)

917.10

B

80

The 917 square miles indicates a larger than average geography.

Population Density

130.5

D

239

Population per square mile of 130.5 shows a less than average density.

Earthquake Movements Probability

0.00

E

259

A low value indicates less of a chance of an earthquake.

Annual Normal Heating (Inverse Rank) Degree Days

2,584

D

241

A low rank of 241 (of Total Degrees Below 65) indicates less annual heating required to create comfortable living conditions compared to the national average. An area with a rank of "1" needs a lot of heating.

Annual Normal Cooling (Inverse Rank) Degree Days

2,451

A

53

A high rank of 53 (of Total Degrees Above 65) indicates more annual cooling required to create comfortable living conditions compared to the national average. An area with a rank of "1" needs a lot of cooling.

Mean Sky Cover

5

E

272

A higher value (Daily Average Sunrise to Sunset - Out of 10) indicates more sky coverage (clouds).

Mean Number of Days Clear

170

A

39

A high value of 170 (Out of 365 Days) indicates more clear days (no clouds).

Culture Index (US Average=100)

79

D

121

A lower value indicates fewer than average cultural activities near the geography. (Note: The Cultural, Amusement, Restaurant, Medical, Religion, and Education are created from county information, which is then applied to lower level geography.)
